Erasmus Research and other Study Visits

Master's students

It is possible to complete a research stay for your master's thesis funded by the ERASMUS programme. You do not need to find a supervisor at the Faculty of Law at Heidelberg University for this. For your research stay, 30 ECTS credits are awarded for one semester. The prerequisites for this are that the requirements of your home university are met and that you are nominated for a research stay to write a master's thesis within the ERASMUS programme.

For further information, please see the websites Libraries, Institutes, Research Centres and associated Institutions and Open Questions.

Doctorate students

You have the possibility of completing a research stay for your doctorate funded by the ERASMUS programme. You will be required to have confirmation of supervision from a professor of the Law Faculty at the University of Heidelberg for the duration of your ERASMUS stay. The supervision consists of the discussion and review of your research project during your research stay. Therefore, you must arrange a short meeting at the beginning and at the end of your research stay. With this enquiry, please contact the respective professors directly via the respective chairs of the Faculty of Law according to your research focus.

For further information, please see the websites Libraries, Institutes, Research Centres and associated Institutions and Open Questions.

Supervision includes discussion of the research project during your stay. To this end, you will arrange a short meeting at the beginning and end of your research stay. As soon as you have received approval for supervision, please forward the relevant e-mail to erasmus@ipr.uni-heidelberg.de. For the research stay, 30 ECTS credits are awarded for one semester. You are required to have successfully completed your research stay and this has been confirmed by the respective supervisor at the Faculty of Law at Heidelberg University.

Please see further information on the website of the Graduate Academy for Research Visits in Heidelberg.

When your home university has nominated you to the International Relations Office, further information will be sent to you directly.

Short-term studies (without ERASMUS-cooperation agreement)

You can also study at Heidelberg University, outside of the ERASMUS programme. Short-term studies are available for students who have started their studies abroad and offer the opportunity to continue their studies at Heidelberg University for up to two semesters without obtaining a degree from Heidelberg University.

Please see the further information on the requirements and the time schedule for short-term studies for international students.

Internships and practical training

The ERASMUS Coordination Office of the Faculty of Law at Heidelberg University does not offer internships or similar positions that count as ERASMUS traineeships. Please see the European Union's general information on Traineeships within the ERASMUS programme.
